7 Quick Takes- First Lenten Friday edition

1.Welcome to the first Friday in Lent! By the grace of God, I was able to make it to early mass. It was a blessing.

2. How are your Lenten practices going. Off to a good start? This was the first year since I've been Catholic that I didn't get ashes. The day was just long and busy, and by the time 7:00 rolled around, I was done. Plus, the fasting made me tired. I have no right to complain, though, as my poor husband had a medical test that required no food at all that day. Everything turned out well, thank God.

3. I did wake up in the middle of the night last night, and used the insomnia as a good time to say a Rosary.

4. Today has a few service activities, so I have that going for me. I always say, if you have kids, you have lots of built in opportunities for service and sometimes even penance.

5.One additional thing I am doing is listening to Father Z's Lentcasts. He puts them out daily, and they are short but meaty. (acceptable sort of meat, even on Fridays) They are posted to his blog each morning. He also posted several versions of audio Stations of the Cross.

6. Yuk. Turning clocks ahead this weekend. Takes me two weeks to adjust. Oh well. Penance!

7. If you have any prayer requests, I would be happy to add them to my Lenten prayers.

Peace,

Kelly

7 quick prayer requests and the promotion of a great blogger

1. I would ask your prayers for some friends this Lent; namely, Kristen, Jan, Joyce, and Mary; each who are going through particularly tough ordeals and would greatly appreciate them.

2. For all priests, certainly, but in particular, Father M., Father C., and Father K.

3. For the Holy Father and the process soon to be underway, the speculations of which are already driving me crazy.

4. For Father MacRae, of this wonderful blog, who has been nominated for Best Catholic Blog, through About.com. If you would like to help him out, you can vote for These Stone Walls, here.

5. For my son, Daniel, who was unjustly fired from his long-time job.

6. For Chuck, my ex-father-in-law, and much-loved grandfather to Meghann, who is in his last time on this earth. And a special request I have asked God on his and the family's behalf. He has been suffering with Alzheimer's for many years.

7. Finally, I would ask your prayers for me, and all my intentions. I have not been able to get completely well ever since getting the flu/cold/virus/something -- some six weeks ago.I get a little better and then, down I go. It gives me something to add to my prayers, for sure, but also detracts from my ability to function. I am limping along, but my limper is getting worn out. As well as my patience. And today, added on, is a nice migraine. Sooo much to add to my prayers.

Just to put things in perspective, and to humble myself after complaining of my headache, and other things today,

I want to thank Manny, who posted a lovely memorial of a fellow blogger, Ros, who touched many with her sweetness. He included this song and video from The Passion of  the Christ, that Ros loved, and now, so do I. I listen and watch every day, and want to watch the movie again during Lent. So, Ros, your legacy of sweetness and devotion lives on. Thank you. :)

Lenten Friday, #2

A Blessed Lenten Friday!

Today I am going to tackle some housecleaning. As I still am practicing for tomorrow mornings flute-a-palooza, and also today is my daughter Corrie's birthday, AND just for extra fun, the skin around my eyes decided to get puffy, red and dry (this happened once before) so that not only am I a bit stressed out inside, now I also look like it. Or like I got in a fight. I guess I kind of am in a fight. After all it's Lent and those roots that live in me don't die without a fight.

So, wishing you all a holy and productive Lenten season. Mine must be going well, cause the attack is on! Hang tough, all, Easter is coming!
